Katie was a member of the Paradise Pow Wow committee for many years. She was a Fancy Shawl dancer who loved dancing in the arena. Many remember seeing Katie dance in her beaded shawl of Golden Eagle wings and the Cherokee nation symbol.
August 1 2006, just 3 weeks after dancing in the Paradise arena, Katie was killed in a car crash. Katie was full of life & proud of her Cherokee & Choctaw heritage. She looked forward to Pow Wow season and traveling the Pow Wow circuit. She was proud to be a part of the Paradise Pow Wow.
Katie had just earned her Nurses Aide certification & was preparing to pursue a career in nursing. The Paradise Pow Wow committee honors Katie's memory with this scholarship. It is awarded yearly to a Native American student pursuing a career in the medical field.
ALL PROFITS FROM THE PARADISE POW WOW GO TO THIS SCHOLARSHIP!
